Red Flags when meeting potential Tenants

If you wish to make a good impression on your prospective new Landlord, then you should consider avoiding everything mentioned below.

It is a Red Flag when a prospective new Tenant…

Shows up late, and without letting Landlord know they were going to be late. This shows a llack of respect for Landlord’s time.

Brings their (non-renting) pals or their parents. Now you have multiple clients for just one place, and they themselves don’t always agree.

Has kids who seem to be or are unruly and difficult to manage. We all have off days, but kids should listen to their parents and be mindful of their own behavior.

Has a vehicle that looks as though it has not been cleaned out since the last ice age. This is an indication of how they will treat the Rental Premises.

Immediately wants a discount.

Is not able to come up with first and last months Rent and/or Security Deposit.

Tells a sob story about their situation.

Has only personal numbers for their references.

Doesn’t have appropriate State ID.

Refuses to participate in a screening service.

Is condescending, treats you like the help, or otherwise makes you uncomfortable.
